The current claims package was created from claim data distributed by the BLM on August 1, 2020.

This package contains KMZ files with lode and placer claims for all counties or regions covered by WMH Mine Discovery Tools. The files are intended for use in Google Earth Pro

This package is included with the Mine Discovery Tools and does not need to be purchased separately. However, you can purchase this package separately from the Mine Discovery Tools products if you are interested in the claims data covered by the included files.

Mining claim data distributed by Western Mining History consists of a custom index of active claim data (pending or closed claims are not included) that has been merged with location data for PLSS sections. This allows active claim information to be displayed on maps to give a general idea of where claims are located.

Mining claims can't be precisely located with the data distributed by the BLM. BLM data will allow you to find out how many active claims there are in each PLSS section, but ultimately you will need to go to the county recorders office and get the full claim record to precisely locate a claim.

You will have access to updates to this file for six months after you initially purchased a Mine Discovery Tools product, or until you have downloaded it ten times. Claim data is not updated on a regular schedule, but it is likely that there will be two or three updates during the six month access period included with the package.

The claims package can be purchased separately if you would like to get the latest claims data after your claims package has expired, or if you would like to view the claims data independently of a Mine Discovery Tools product.

Currently the package contains claim data for the following areas:

California

  • El Dorado County
  • Nevada County
  • Placer County
  • Plumas County
  • Sierra County

Oregon

  • Jackson County
  • Josephine County

A six-page guide on doing claims research with the BLM LR-2000 is also included.
